Frequently Asked Questions…

  • Mohs Surgery is a highly accurate, microscopically controlled surgery that can help our patients get clear of tumors with the lowest chance of recurrence.

The goal of Mohs Surgery is to remove all of the cancer cells, while leaving as much of the healthy tissue as possible. Mohs Surgery is an improvement to standard surgery as it allows Dr. Bookout to verify that the cancer cells have been removed at the time of surgery.

  • All surgical procedures have the potential for some degree of visible scarring as every patient is unique.

The appearance of a post-Mohs surgical scar will depend on several factors, including the size and location of the final defect, individual skin characteristics, and the reconstruction options available.

Most scars improve in appearance naturally over time and future scar revision techniques may employ if necessary.

You should keep in mind, however, that the tissue-sparing nature of the Mohs technique may result in a smaller, less noticeable scar than other skin cancer removal methods.
